What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most performed operations of plastic surgeons in women and men. For many reasons, there may be deformities in the nose. Genetic causes, accidents, traumas such as fall and impact at a young age are some of them.

In which Conditions Rhinoplasty are made?

Although Nasal Aesthetics is preferred more for appearance, some patients also apply to respiratory complaints. In these cases, it is stated that if there is a defect in appearance, it may be necessary to eliminate aesthetic concerns while eliminating the respiratory problem.

People who are considering having a rhinoplasty operation must be over 18 years old.

Natural Appearance in Rhinoplasty

In the Rhinoplasty, the main purpose is, if possible, to create a natural appearance that cannot be distinguished by others. Like every operation, it should be planned completely personally. Before the procedure is performed, the patient and the doctor should talk about details, and it should be performed by that doctor considering the best appropriate appearance for the patient.

What Should Be Considered Before Rhinoplasty?

If there are any drugs used, they must be reported to the specialist physician.

The use of drugs such as aspirin can cause bleeding problems during or after surgery. For this reason, it is recommended that you stop using this type of medication, alcohol and smoking at least 15 days before surgery.

At the same time, if a contraceptive pill is used, the physician must be informed prior to the operation.

How Is Rhinoplasty Made?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. It may take between 45 minutes and 2:30 hours on average (this period varies depending on the process to be performed). Perforated pads designed to breathe easily between 1 and 3 days after the operation are used, and a nose plaster is removed, if any, after a week.

Often, after completing a week, the patient can return to his/her daily life, social activity and work.

There are no scarring problems after Rhinoplasty.

After Rhinoplasty

The patient stays in the hospital for precaution one night. In some cases, temporary bruises and swellings occur after Rhinoplasty surgery. However, this situation disappears after a certain time. If a tampon is placed, the tampon is removed after 2-4 days. Bone healing is considered to be partially 6-8. Splints placed on the nose are removed on days. If open rhinoplasty is performed, recovery is observed by leaving an indistinct scar.

It is possible to see very slight leaks and slight blockages during the first few days. In the first month, there may be swelling in the nose that may slightly affect breathing due to oedema related to the operation. This swelling is removed with the medicines recommended by the doctor.

The time to start the operation depends on the technique of the operation, the procedures performed, the patient's healing potential, the work of the patient and the environment in which he lives. If the patients doing desk work do not care about the appearance of their splints in the nose, they can do work on the fourth day. For those who work very actively, it is recommended to start work for 7-10 days.

Smoking adversely affects the healing process. It is also necessary to pay attention to some external factors during the treatment process. It should be protected from sunlight for 3 months. Since there is no incision after closed surgeries, it is not necessary to get extra protection against sunlight, but it should not be forgotten; protection from the sun is always important to prevent premature ageing of the skin. Swimming, running and similar activities are limited according to the procedures and technique. It is also recommended to obtain information from the doctor about the use of contact lenses and glasses.

Complete recovery after nose operations takes place within a 3-6 month period.

  • You need to protect your nose from impacts.
  • The nose gets its full state after 6 months.
  • Alcohol and cigarettes should not be used.
  • You need to be protected from sunlight.
